Bougainvillea: A Floral Retrospective
Since picking up a film camera in 2018, it feels like bougainvillea have followed me everywhere. I've been fortunate enough to mostly live in places where they grow year-round, and traveled to places where they're in brilliant bloom. Nothing has been more consistent in my work over the years than this flower, this beautiful burst of color blossoming on street corners, tangled in telephone lines, and climbing up walls all over the world.
I often have a hard time describing what I look for in my photos, but the thousands of ways I've photographed bougainvillea are a visual testament to my ongoing love affair with color. The photos in this show make up a body of work I've been unconsciously building for 7 years running, from California to Mexico City to the coast of Puglia.
